Following his first two Top Ten hits in each of the previous year ("It Don't Come Easy" in 1971 and "Back Off Boogaloo" in 1972), Ringo Starr topped the US chart for the first time for one week with "Photograph", a song he wrote with fellow former Beatle, George Harrison.
The record, which was produced by Richard Perry, also featured Harrison on 12-string acoustic guitar and as a backing singer. It made Ringo the third former Beatle to top the chart, leaving John Lennon as the only one still to have a solo no.1.
On 29 November 2002, Starr performed "Photograph" at the Concert for George held in the Royal Albert Hall, London on the first anniversary of Harrison's death. According to the Concert for George website, "Ringo Starr caught everyone with a tear in their eye with a rendition of 'Photograph', a composition he wrote with George, which seemed to sum up how everyone felt." In this concert, Starr mentioned that the song took on a whole new meaning after the passing of Harrison.
