Still at no.1 on the US chart for the fifth of nine week, Guy Mitchell's "Singing the Blues" topped the British chart as well. It was to become the second hit - after Frankie Laine's "I Believe" - to top the British chart on three separate occasions; after being replaced at no.1 a week later by Tommy Steele & The Steelmen's version of the same song, it returned to the top a week later only to be replaced by Frankie Vaughan's "The Garden of Eden", with which it then went on to share top billing on 25 January for its third and last week at no.1.
