Having just spent 2 weeks at the top of the UK chart, The Beach Boys interrupted The New Vaudeville Band's "Winchester Cathedral" 3-week run at no.1 when they topped the US chart for just 1 week with what many people regard as one of the finest productions of the sixties, "Good Vibrations".
Written by Brian Wilson and Mike Love, it was the group's first eight-track recording and took Wilson 90 hours over six months in 17 recording sessions at four different studios - and cost over $50,000 - before he was satisfied with the final result.
in 2010 it was ranked as no.6 on Rolling Stone's list of the "500 Greatest Songs of All Time." In 2001 it was ranked no.24 in the "365 Songs of the Century RIAA", in 2000 it was ranked no.8 in the "100 Greatest Rock Songs VH1", and in 1995, it was included in "The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll" list.
