Berry Gordy Jr. had his first major success in the American music industry when Jackie Wilson's "Lonely Teardrops", a song they'd written together, topped the US R&B chart for the first of seven weeks before going on to reach no.7 on the US single chart.
This was the last song Jackie Wilson performed before his coma and later death, when he collapsed on-stage singing it while appearing as one of the feature acts in Dick Clark's Good Ol' Rock and Roll Revue in 1975.
The song is a 1999 Grammy Hall of Fame Inductee, and is ranked no.308 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. (Source: The History of Rock Day by Day)
