In and around the St. Louis area is a fast food joint called White Castles. Founded in Witchita, KS in 1921, Whities (which it is affectionately known as by locals) is credited for being the first fast-food chain. With their signature square "sliders", they won over the taste buds of midwesterners. This recipe was created by a St. Louisian, and is the closest taste you'll get outside the region to a Cheeseburger Whities.
Cheeseburger Whities 1 lb. Ground beef 1 envelope onion soup mix 1 can Cream of Mushroom 6 oz. Processed cheese loaf, cubed (like Velveeta) 24 Dinner Rolls 24 pickles drained (optional
Crumble, cook and drain ground beef. Add soup mix, cream soup & cheese. Cook over low heat until cheese is melted. Cut dinner rolls in half and place roll bottoms on a 13×9 tray lined with foil. Spread meat mixture over the bottom buns as equally as possible. Top each with a pickle, if desired. Place bun tops on and cover with foil, sealing edges. Bake at 350° for 15 minutes. Enjoy!

I lived off those sliders a long time back in the day but White Castle has been long gone from this area. Thanks for the recipe. I think I'll put it to good use after the holidays
